Which is better, the front or reverse installation of the trailer axle?

The trailer axle is one of the key components on the vehicle chassis, especially the rear axle of the trailer, which bears the main weight of the loaded goods, which is directly related to the strength of the vehicle's load-bearing performance.

Generally speaking, the trailer axle is connected to the frame by the suspension. However, in actual vehicle applications, we often hear the saying "trailer axle reverse installation". So what kind of installation method is "trailer axle reverse installation"?

The so-called trailer axle reverse installation refers to installing the leaf spring originally installed above the trailer axle on the lower side of the trailer axle, and reinforcing it with riding screws, clamps and invisible bow brackets below, commonly known as hoisting trailer axle.

Why is the trailer axle reversed? The main reason is to reduce the height of the vehicle body. After the leaf spring is installed under the axle of the trailer, the working surface of the whole vehicle can be lowered, which can not only improve the passability of the vehicle on the height-limited road section, but also load more goods and pull more squares.

In addition, after the trailer axle is reversed, the chassis of the vehicle is shorter, the center of gravity is also lowered, and the vehicle is more stable when driving.

Of course, there are also disadvantages of reverse-mounted trailer axles. The most obvious is that the requirements for road conditions have been increased. If the road conditions are poor, the passability of the vehicle's chassis will also be affected.

But what worries car owners even more is whether the load-bearing performance of the vehicle will be affected after the trailer axle is reversed.

Theoretically, if the leaf spring is installed above the trailer axle, that is, when it is being installed, the leaf spring directly bears the weight of the vehicle body; when the leaf spring is installed below, the trailer axle directly bears the load, and then the force is transmitted to the plate through the saddle screw. On the spring, it is almost equivalent to directly using the saddle screw to bear the force, and the risk of the screw breaking is very high. Even in the case of reverse installation, the leaf spring is still the largest load-bearing side, but once the screw is broken, the leaf spring is easy to fall.

Although this is the case in theory, in actual use, the reputation of anti-mounted trailer axles does not seem to be very bad:

So, which one is better, the front installation or the reverse installation of the trailer axle? Also consider the operating conditions of the vehicle comprehensively.

It is better for the minivan leaf spring to be installed under the trailer axle. The chassis is short and the center of gravity is low, so it is not easy to float when running, and it is not easy to roll over when turning.

However, the stress-bearing area of the axle of the reverse trailer is much smaller than that of the axle of the regular trailer, and the quality of the riding screws is more tested, so it is not possible to load too heavy goods.

It is better to install the leaf spring of medium and large trucks above the axle of the trailer, and it is stronger. It can maximize the load-bearing performance of the leaf spring, has a strong load-bearing capacity, and is more suitable for heavy-duty cargo.
