With their own characteristics of high transportation efficiency, low transportation cost, strong carrying capacity, high efficiency, fast and relatively stable, they are used in various general cargo transportation and It plays an irreplaceable role in special operations.

However, if you turn the time back to the 1970s and 1990s, you will find that trailers were the most popular in the domestic transportation market at that time. Different from the semi-trailer, the full-trailer can independently bear the load and maintain balance even after being separated from the main vehicle, which can reduce the waiting time of the main vehicle during the loading and unloading of the trailer; secondly, the turning radius of the full-trailer is smaller than that of the semi-trailer. On the road conditions, the trafficability of the vehicle is better. So at that time, almost all the transport vehicles running on the road were fully-mounted.


Later, with the improvement of infrastructure capacity, domestic road conditions have also continued to improve. But the number of full trailers is getting less and less, and the reasons are nothing more than the following:


1. Driving is difficult. Due to structural design reasons, the front axle of a full trailer generally has a steering function, which is relatively independent from the steering system of the main vehicle, so the tracking performance of the trailer is not as good as that of a semi-trailer, which is harmful to the technical and psychological quality of the driver. A test, especially when reversing, driving is more difficult, if you are not careful, you will lock yourself up, and non-veteran drivers are not competent.


2. Poor driving stability. The drawbar/traction frame of the trailer can swing up and down, and can also swing left and right, which enhances the flexibility of the trailer, but relatively, it also greatly affects the stability of the trailer at high speed, which is easy to cause braking. There are dangers such as tail flicking, so it is not suitable for high-speed transportation.


3. The braking distance is unstable. The connection between the full trailer and the main vehicle is mainly through the drawbar/traction frame. The gap in the middle is not fixed, and the synergy of the trailer is not as good as that of the semi-trailer. Therefore, the driver's skills and experience are also tested when braking. If you step on the brakes firmly and steadily, it is easy for the vehicle to flick, and it is also easy for the brakes to slip in rainy and snowy weather, which will affect traffic safety.

4. The carrying capacity gradually lags behind that of the semi-trailer. In the past, my country's vehicle technology was relatively backward, and the transport capacity of tractors could not be improved. Compared with one compartment of semi-trailer, full trailer + main vehicle can realize two compartments loading, which has obvious advantages in terms of carrying capacity. However, with the continuous improvement of vehicle technology, the horsepower of the tractor continues to increase. In this way, the tractor can transport more goods. Even if the semi-trailer has only one compartment, it can also be loaded with the same amount as the full trailer or even more than the full trailer. combined with the adaptability of the semi-trailer to complex road conditions, it presents a situation in which latecomers prevail.


5. Clear restrictions on legal prohibitions. The 1995 "Expressway Traffic Management Measures" stipulated that full-trailer tractors are not allowed to enter the expressway; the 2003 "Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China" clarified again: full-trailer trailers and other vehicles with a design maximum speed of less than 70 kilometers per hour Motor vehicles are not allowed to enter the expressway.


So far, trailers, which were once extremely popular in the transportation market, began to decline, but this did not affect the success of trailers in foreign countries, especially in European and American countries, where the population base is small, the land is sparsely populated, and the requirements for carrying capacity Not too high, compared to the more concerned about the functionality of the truck, in this regard, the full trailer is obviously more dominant than the semi-trailer; besides, the vehicle auxiliary safety technology in Europe and the United States is relatively advanced, which can also make up for the shortcomings of the full trailer to a certain extent , so whether it is in drop-and-hook transportation or on various special-purpose vehicles, full trailers can be widely used.

Where will the domestic trailers go? Is it just going to die?
