Is the trailer safe with EBS? Also pay attention to the primary mount match

Today's tractor configuration has changed, a variety of intelligent electronic assistance systems to support the whole body, even more advanced electronic braking system EBS, body electronic stability system ESP, driving assistance system ADAS has gradually become the standard on high-end heavy trucks, can fully protect the driver's driving safety.

Although the main car configuration is getting higher and higher, many owners of trailer axle the trailer is still staying at the technical level of many years ago, not to mention EBS, some even do not connect ABS cables or are removed, so if the main car configuration has EBS, and the trailer does not, what will happen? This brings us to the problem of primary hanging matching.

Removal of ABS braking stronger? Not so!

First of all, let's talk about why many owners choose to remove the ABS on the trailer. The role of ABS is to prevent the wheel from locking, so that the wheel and the road have maintained a continuous rolling friction state, in order to improve the longitudinal and horizontal adhesion between the tire and the ground during the braking process, so as to obtain better directional stability, steering control ability and shorten the braking distance.

First of all, in the main car, many owners will mistakenly believe that removing the front wheel ABS and drum brake will make the main hanging match safer and not easy to push the head phenomenon. In fact, this approach is not correct, the wheel will be held dead after the formation of static friction with the road, resulting in a decrease in braking force, sliding distance becomes longer, and the vehicle will run off, lose the steering ability, this time the direction of the role is minimal, will lose the ability to avoid emergency, may also lead to sidesslip.

After the ABS system is involved, the rolling friction between the wheel and the ground can not only shorten the braking distance, but also control the direction of the vehicle and change the route of travel. Since ABS is so good, why do many owners still not buy it?

One of the main reasons is the above-mentioned "foot sense", in order to improve the foot sense, many owners will remove the ABS and modify it into the so-called "brake king", in order to violently enhance the vehicle braking force, so that the wheels are frequently in a dead state. However, over a long period of time, the thermal attenuation phenomenon of the brake drum will be obvious, and abnormal wear and tear will also occur.

The ABS will constantly adjust the brake pressure when it is involved, so the brake pedal will spring up, giving the driver the subjective feeling of "stepping on", and it will also be considered that the ABS braking force is not strong and not useful.

In terms of trailers, another reason is that the trailer products on the market at this stage are mixed and the quality is uneven, and the inferior axle produced by many small factories or workshops simply cannot meet the requirements of the ABS system for the accuracy of the axle. In addition, in order to save production costs, even the equipped ABS system is a heterogeneous brand, the performance is difficult to meet expectations, over time, but also trailer axle let the owner formed the impression that ABS is not good.

Of course, although many owners were not so concerned about the matching problem of the car hanger in the past, it is still necessary to solve the phenomenon of pushing the head. The more common way is to directly remove the drum brake, including ABS, wheel speed sensors, adjust the trailer brake lead or install a stronger brake performance configuration such as "brake king" to reduce the phenomenon of trailer pushing head.

But now it is clear that this approach has huge security risks. If the main vehicle has ABS and the trailer does not have or is modified with a device such as "brake king", the vehicle will quickly intervene under emergency braking, and the trailer without ABS will let the wheels in a dead state, which is easy to cause sideshow, resulting in the driver being unable to control the vehicle well, resulting in a traffic accident.

In addition, the "brake king" will seriously damage the normal use of the automatic gap adjusting arm, a long time, the automatic gap adjusting arm is easy to fail, light will lead to rapid abnormal wear of the trailer brake system, heavy will lead to brake system paralysis failure.

Why emphasize that the main hanging matching trailer is not EBS too common

With ABS out of the way, let's turn to EBS. EBS is based on the ABS system to add a series of electronic control module upgrade, with an efficient electronic control system to replace the original pure mechanical control, not only can further improve the efficiency and safety of the vehicle, but also expand more intelligent auxiliary functions. For example, the vehicle stability control function (ESC or ESP), brake force distribution system (EBD), anti-roll system (RSC), drive anti-slip (ASR), ramp assist (HSA), and so on, EBS can be regarded as a more advanced work platform.

At present, due to the expensive price of EBS, it is mainly used for imported cars and high-end heavy truck products, relatively few, which is also a very common situation in the domestic market.

In this regard, we also interviewed the technical engineer of the liberation service station - Guan Junquan, he said that at present, the tractor on the market is configured with EBS, and the proportion of trailers without EBS is extremely high. At this stage, most trailers are mostly ABS systems, and some even have ABS removed, so that it is difficult to fully play the performance advantages of the main car, especially the proud brake safety system, which is equivalent to decoration, and even affects driving safety, the most common performance is to push the head and other situations.

In the case that the main vehicle has EBS, but the trailer is not equipped with EBS, what safety risks may exist in the vehicle? It is understood that, first of all, because most trailers are mechanical ABS, there is no EBS electronic control system in the response speed is fast and sensitive, and the electrical signal is always faster than the mechanical control. Therefore, especially in the case of heavy-duty turning, the traction front brake system with EBS can complete the response instantaneously, while the trailer relies on mechanical control of ABS will be delayed, the main brake time is not coordinated, and the more serious emergency braking situation may cause the vehicle to roll over.

If the main car has EBS, the trailer has no EBS, the trailer can not transmit the weight sensing signal, the sense of how heavy the car is pulled, all rely on the main car to deploy, to some extent, will affect the braking performance of the vehicle. Although we now invest enough in the safety configuration of the main vehicle, the corresponding trailer must also be continuously improved, so that the best balance between the main vehicle and the trailer can trailer axle be reached and the full strength of the vehicle can be played.

Disc brake + airbag bridge +EBS

To quote from the topic above, what are the hidden dangers of mismatching the main hang in turning situations? In simple terms, the EBS electronic control system is faster than ABS, the gas path delay is lower, and the corresponding braking time is faster, which brings the benefit of shorter braking distance. In the case of the vehicle turning speed is relatively fast, the EBS system will begin to play a role, automatic braking of the inside wheel, but if the trailer does not have an EBS system, it will not be able to synchronize this action, and the trailer will easily push the main car away, resulting in a push head or rolover and other dangerous situations.

Although the EBS electronic braking system has excellent performance, it is also necessary to take into account the consistency of the main vehicle and trailer matching, and in the case of both EBS, the original strength of the vehicle can be played. At this stage, the most common phenomenon is that the new car is matched with the old hanging, which affects the driving safety hazards to a certain extent, so it is recommended that the owners do a good job of matching the main hanging, so that the vehicle braking performance is better released.
