Hub bearings require regular maintenance, and the maintenance cycle of different brands also has certain differences. Under normal circumstances, the maintenance cycle of non-maintenance-free hub bearings is 1W km-5W km, and the maintenance cycle of maintenance-free bearings is longer, generally in 10W km-50W km. Owners can refer to the instruction manual of the trailer axle they purchased, and generally mark the maintenance cycle in detail.

Some owners tend to ignore vehicle maintenance because they are usually busy. But as the saying goes, "sharpening the knife does not miss the wood worker", not to mention the hub bearing is directly related to the safety of the car. If the maintenance is not in place, the light shaft hair hot, abnormal wear, heavy vehicle spontaneous combustion or tire off. In addition, if the lubricating oil in the hub bearing melts into the brake drum, it will also affect the braking effect and cause brake failure. Once these problems appear, they will seriously affect driving safety.

1. Prepare for the work, stop the vehicle, set up the axle, and ensure the safety of the operation;


2, remove the hub shaft head decoration cover, dust cover;


3, remove the tire nut, remove the tire, be careful not to hurt the bolt thread. The disc axle needs to remove the brake, and then remove the lock ring or lock pin with hand pliers;


4. Remove the wheel hub with special tools;


5. Scrape the old grease in the bearing, journal and hub cavity, clean the hub bearing and journal with cleaning agent, dry with a clean rag, and finally wipe the hub cavity;


6, check the hub bearing and bearing ring, found cracks, fatigue spalling and bearing roller loose, pitting on the bearing ring, should replace the bearing;


7. Check the match between the bearing inner diameter and the journal, and the match clearance should be ≤0.10mm. When measuring the journal, it should be measured at the upper and lower parts of the vertical ground. If the fit clearance exceeds the specified limit of use, the bearing should be replaced to restore the normal fit clearance. Do not make burrs or pitting on the journal to narrow the gap;


8. After confirming that all parts meet the requirements, grease the inner bearing and put it into the wheel hub;


9. When applying bearing inner cavity grease, it should be noted that the grease should be squeezed into the bearing until the grease emerges from the other side of the bearing, do not apply too much, otherwise it will affect heat dissipation and braking. Apply a thin layer of grease in the hub cavity and the shaft head cover to prevent rust;


10. Install the wheel hub and the outer bearing back to the journal, install the shaft nut, and tighten it with the shaft wrench according to the specified torque. Turn the hub a few times to check the installation of the bearing, and make the bearing and the seat ring fit correctly. When the bearing progress is appropriate, the wheel end can rotate freely and can not feel the axial clearance;


11. Install the lock piece, fixed nuts, tires, dust cover and decorative cover in turn.


It is necessary to pay special attention to the preload of the hub bearing must be controlled within the specified range, too tight will lead to the bearing running clearance is too small, resulting in bearing ablation; Too loose will lead to sliding between bearings and hubs or axles, causing wheel wobble instability, and may cause wheels to fly out in serious cases.

The application of grease must be appropriate, too little poor lubrication, resulting in increased friction between the bearing and the hub, resulting in bearing damage, too much will lead to poor bearing heat dissipation, resulting in vehicle spontaneous combustion or brake failure.


In addition, for the maintenance cycle given on the axle manual, the owner should also be strictly comprehensive and practical, if their vehicles often transport heavy goods, or driving road conditions are more severe, the vehicle maintenance cycle should also be shortened accordingly.
