Trailer axle choose round tube or square tube? Which is better?
The trailer axle is a common support bridge, which can also be called a follow-up bridge, generally without drive and steering functions, mainly providing load bearing, braking and maintaining the role of driving, is a key component related to the carrying capacity of the vehicle.
Axle can also be called "axle assembly", refers to on the basis of the axle, welding brake bottom plate, spherical bearing seat, air chamber support, etc., to form the total shaft, and then install camshaft assembly, brake assembly, wheel end assembly, cotter pin, adjusting arm and other parts.
When installing, the two ends of the trailer axle are connected to the wheels through the wheel end assembly, the middle is connected to the frame through the suspension system, and the loading position of the goods is above the frame. Therefore, the axle in the middle of the trailer axle, that is, the often said "bridge rod" and "shaft beam", the strength of its performance directly determines the bearing capacity of the axle.
Common axles can be divided into square tubes and round tubes, which is better? What are the differences between the trailer square axle and the trailer round axle?
Traditionally, a circular shaft is one of the most common shaft shapes, consisting of a cylinder, usually of different diameters and lengths;
The square shaft has four planes and is usually composed of a square cylinder, which has one more round square modification process than the circular shaft in the production process.
As for which of the two is better, generally under the same conditions, the bending and torsional resistance of the square shaft is stronger. Because the square axis is designed with four right angles, its moment of inertia value and central moment are larger than the circular axis, and it is not easy to deform. For a simple example, a round tube with a wall thickness of 1cm May not be able to bear the pressure of 50kg, and the middle is prone to surface depression; However, if two steel plates with a wall thickness of 1cm are welded vertically at 90°, it may be no problem to bear 50kg of pressure, and even 100kg is no problem, which is the bearing performance of the right-angle structure. Therefore, when the axle wall thickness is the same, the bearing capacity of the square tube is relatively stronger.
Of course, "there are shortcomings and strengths", square and circular axes as long as the right working conditions, there is no "which is better" problem. Although the bending ability of round pipe in a specific direction is not as good as that of square pipe, its bearing capacity in all directions is more balanced, and its advantages in coping with multiple stresses are more obvious. Under the same cross-sectional area, the circumference of the round tube is smaller than that of the square tube, so less material is used and the weight is more dominant. In addition, in some special heavy-duty special axle, such as low flat trailer axle, three-line six-axis trailer axle, etc., due to its high wall thickness and low center of gravity, it is also more suitable for using round tubes.
