The same four-axle truck, why is 8X2 more popular than 8X4?

8X4 trucks have always been the main force of transportation in the freight market. They have good stability, strong loading capacity, and can pull a lot of goods. They are "all in size" for goods, especially in the transportation of short- and medium-distance materials such as green transportation, less-than-truckload, and cold-chain transportation. It plays an extremely important role.

The so-called "8X4" means that the total number of wheels of the vehicle is 8 groups, of which there are 4 groups of driving wheels. The 8X4 truck is also called "front four and rear eight". "Front four" means that the front steering wheels are two axles and four wheels, and "rear eight" means that the rear driving wheels are two axles and eight wheels.

Before the introduction of GB1589, 8X4 could be said to be the "big brother" in the field of medium and short-distance transportation. However, with the introduction of regulations, the compliant loading capacity of 8X4 has been reduced by nearly 9 tons. Under the environment of continuous sluggish transportation environment and high trailer axle empty vehicle rate, car owners have to turn their attention to other models, and there are endless choices of 8X2 instead of 8X4.

The 8X2 truck, also known as "four front and six rear", is very similar to the 8X4 model in appearance. The difference is that the 8X2 model has two sets of driving wheels, and the rear end has two axles and six wheels.

Why is the same four-axle truck, 8X4 has abdicated, but 8X2 has become the new favorite?

1. Lower purchase cost and better economy. It has to be admitted that the price of 8X2 is lower. Under the same configuration, 8X2 can be about 2W cheaper than 8X4. Most car owners still prefer to choose models with lower prices.

2. The vehicle is lighter in weight and can hold more cargo. According to the requirements, the compliance loading capacity of the four-axle vehicle is 31t, that is to say, the maximum total weight of the 8X2 and 8X4 is 31t, but the vehicle weight of the 8X2 is about 1t lighter than that of the 8X4 model, which means that the 8X2 can carry 1t more goods within the scope allowed by the regulations. In the current logistics environment, this has become very precious.

3. Less fuel consumption and lower overall trailer axle operating costs. Under the same mileage, the fuel consumption of the 8X2 model can save 2-3L compared with the 8X4. The current oil price continues to rise, and the fuel expenditure accounts for almost 50% of the vehicle operating cost. Less fuel consumption means less cost, which means higher profit to a certain extent.

Of course, the rise of the 8X2 model does not mean that the advantages of the 8X4 have completely disappeared. After all, the two sets of extra driving wheels of the 8X4 are not decorations. When facing complex road conditions, the driving force and passability of the 8X4 are also unmatched by the 8X2. In some construction engineering fields, the 8X4 model is more suitable.

Besides, the development of the freight industry is changing with each passing day, and the update of vehicle technology is also dizzying. The temporary coldness does not fully represent the future development situation.

In addition, if the purchase budget of the car owner is relatively high, usually there are many long-distance trips, and the supply of goods is relatively chaotic, such as heavy goods and dumped goods, then you can also choose a one-to-two semi-trailer, that is, a 4×2 tractor with a two-axle semi-trailer. The self-weight of the vehicle is about 14 tons, and the weight limit is 36 tons. Of course, car owners also need to apply for additional driving and obtain an A2 driver's license, trailer axle so that they can drive on the road in compliance.

Therefore, when choosing this model, you must not follow others’ opinions, and the one that suits your own working conditions is the best.
