How to measure the wheel base of the trailer axle?
Trailer axle is a typical driven bridge, also called support bridge, the main role is to provide sufficient bearing capacity for the vehicle, while taking into account trailer braking, shock absorption and maintenance. Under normal circumstances, the axle beam strength of the axle is often directly related to the overall bearing capacity.
The common trailer bridge is mostly hollow bridge, its shaft beam is hollow in the center, can be divided into two kinds of square shaft and circular shaft, round pipe directly from the seamless steel pipe loading and unloading, square pipe is from the round pipe based on the square push process. According to the different types of axle, the wall thickness parameters of the shaft beam are also different, and the thickness of the selected seamless steel pipe varies from a few millimeters to more than 20 millimeters. The reason why the hollow bridge is designed is also the result of comprehensive consideration of engineering mechanics and vehicle economy and other factors, while ensuring the bearing capacity of the axle, the self-weight is reduced as much as possible.
When buying a axle, many owners are often asked how much the wheel base is, which is also to ensure that the selected axle can better match the model. So how can this parameter be measured accurately?
Simply put, the wheel gauge refers to the distance between the tires on both sides of the trailer, and precisely, it refers to the distance between the center points of the tires on both ends of the axle. If it is a twin structure, the distance between the twin centers on both sides can be measured. This may be more obscure, you can take a look at the following figure:
Since the wheel gauge is mentioned, there are also several other common parameters and common names on the rear axle of the trailer:
Suspension center distance: distance between suspension support points.
Wheel mounting surface spacing: located at both ends of the shaft body, used for the distance between the two ends in contact with the wheel mounting surface.
Drum brake shaft total composition: by the shaft body, brake bottom plate, brake chamber support, camshaft support, etc.
Disc brake shaft total composition: composed of shaft body, brake base plate, etc.
Hub assembly: connecting the wheel and shaft body, mainly bear the load between the wheel and shaft body rotating assembly, can be composed of hub, bearing, oil seal, shaft nut, end cap and so on.
