As the name suggests, container semi-trailer is mainly used to transport containers, from the delivery warehouse will be filled with cargo containers to the trailer, transport to the receiving warehouse for unloading, if the need for transfer, only need to move the container, without the goods scattered unloaded, loading, so the transportation efficiency is greatly improved.


From the appearance, the container semi-trailer is very similar to the van semi-trailer, which uses the cargo box to transport goods. However, there is a fundamental difference between these two models: the cargo compartment of the container semi-trailer belongs to the category of goods, and the cargo compartment of the van semi-trailer belongs to the category of the body.


In other words, the body of the container semi-trailer is generally a skeleton semi-trailer, and the container is fixed on the frame through a special locking structure; The cargo compartment of the van semi-trailer is directly integrated with the frame.

Since the longest standard container on the market is 45 feet, or 13.715 meters, in order to adapt to the transportation of these containers, the regulations specifically mark the outer dimension of the container semi-trailer.


According to the "GB1589-2016 Automobile, trailer and automobile train exterior dimensions, axle load and limit value", the length limit of conventional semi-trailers, such as plate type, warehouse type, van type and dump type, is 13 meters; Low plate semi-trailer length limit of 13.75 m for the transport of non-removable bulky goods; The maximum length limit for semi-trailers carrying 45ft containers is 13.95m. That is to say, if the container semi-trailer is fully loaded, its length can reach 13.95 meters.


It is also because of this extra 20cm that many express companies have begun to choose skeleton + container semi-trailers to replace the original van semi-trailers. Of course, in addition to the larger volume, lighter weight, fuel saving, reducing vehicle costs, and high transportation efficiency are also very important reasons.


However, the green light on the regulations has also become a hotbed of violations to a certain extent. In the actual application process, many logistics companies are simply not satisfied with this extra 20cm. Because most of the goods in the express industry belong to light cargo, small single volume, large overall volume, relatively light weight, even the largest 45 feet of cargo box, its volume is about 86 square, want to transport more goods at one time, can only take the edge of the sword, so serious ultra-long, ultra-high, ultra-wide container semi-trailer appeared.



As can be seen from the diagram, the length and width of these containers have been poking out of the frame size, far beyond the legal requirements of the outline parameters.


According to industry insiders, some illegal cargo boxes can be as long as 16-18 meters, wide as 3-3.2 meters, height as high as 4.3-4.5 meters, and the number of transportation can reach 130, 150, 160, 180 or even 210.


Such models have large blind areas, large turning radius, and poor passability, which seriously affects traffic safety, and is also unfair to other compliant transportation enterprises, which is bound to affect the overall environment of the freight industry in the long run.

However, these illegal cargo boxes are not within the scope of the annual review, because the skeleton + container structure of the semi-trailer, the body is a skeleton, the annual review only needs to detect the body.


Even some regulations that must use the disc brake and empty suspension models, in order to avoid high costs, also choose to buy skeleton semi-trailer, and then secretly install the jacket, such as fence or warehouse grid, when the annual review will be removed, only skeleton semi-trailer submitted for review. On the surface, it seems to save money, but once the traffic police catch, fines deduction points, mainly poor security, if there is a problem will not be worth the loss.


In addition, the skeleton + container semi-trailer itself is more special, its cargo compartment needs follow-up connection, and the body is not one, if the full load in the case of sudden braking, it is easy to cause damage to the cargo compartment, and even out of the lock structure directly to the cab, not to mention serious overload, the consequences are unimaginable. Therefore, for safety reasons, super long, super wide, and overload are never advisable.
