But everyone knows that the braking force of the disc brake axle is not as good as that of the drum brake axle. Will it affect the braking effect when used on a semi-trailer? Is the disc brake axle reliable for the rear axle of a semi-trailer?


It is true that compared with the brake drum and brake pads of the drum brake axle, the brake friction area of the disc brake axle is indeed smaller, which leads to the braking force output by the disc brake axle is smaller than that of the drum brake axle under the same load. But this "less than" is relative. Although the braking force of the disc brake axle is small, it is more than enough to meet the braking needs of standard vehicles.

When the vehicle is wading, the disc brake bridge only needs 1-2 times of braking, and the performance can be restored, but the drum brake bridge needs more than a dozen consecutive braking performances to recover. Not to mention the dynamic effect, it is also easy to cause problems such as wheel lock and brake rust.


To sum up, it is no problem for the disc brake axle to be used on the rear axle of the semi-trailer. However, the actual application situation is much more complicated than the theory, and there are more factors to be considered. Therefore, whether the disc brake axle can provide reliable performance guarantee for the semi-trailer still needs to be determined by the actual situation.
