Buy light trucks and choose air brakes or oil brakes?

The braking system is a very critical configuration on the vehicle. To judge the performance of a vehicle, the braking ability is very important. Generally speaking, the common vehicle braking methods are mainly air brakes and oil brakes. For light trucks with relatively awkward vehicle positioning, either air brakes or oil brakes can be used, but which one is better to choose trailer axle?

The structure of air brake and oil brake is different

The structure of the air brake is relatively complex, consisting of the brake master cylinder, sub-cylinder, brake pipeline, air pump, air storage tank, high-pressure controller, relay valve, air pressure gauge, etc., so the requirements for installation space are relatively high, suitable for Medium and large vehicles.

In contrast, the structure of the oil brake is much simpler. It is generally composed of a master cylinder, a slave cylinder, an oil cup and connecting pipelines. It requires a relatively small installation space, so it is suitable for small vehicles.

Air brakes are different from oil brakes

The braking medium used in air brakes is air, which pushes the brake pads to work after pressurization. If the air pressure is insufficient, the braking force cannot be obtained.

The brake medium of the oil brake is brake special oil. When the brake pedal is stepped on, the piston and sealing cup in the brake master cylinder will be pushed, and then the oil will be sent to each brake cylinder through the push rod. On the piston, it pushes the brake pads to work.

Air brakes are different from oil brakes

Under the oil brake structure, the parking brake directly applies the braking force to the wheels by pulling up the brake handle.

Under the air brake structure, the parking brake directly acts the torque on the transmission shaft. In order to enhance the braking safety, the parking brake of the general air brake vehicle is mostly used for the parking brake trailer axle. Usually, it is in a constant braking state through a strong spring. When the vehicle needs When driving, pressurized air pushes the spring apart to release the braking state.

Main features of air brakes and oil brakes

In comparison, the air brake has a fast response speed and strong braking force, and it is not easy to slide in uphill and downhill road conditions. When the vehicle is fully loaded, it can realize high-speed emergency stop, and the emergency brake is not easy to roll over. However, the later maintenance is more complicated, and the wear and tear of the braking system is also more obvious. On some long downhill roads, if the brake pedal is stepped on frequently, it is easy to cause the vehicle to have insufficient air pressure and cause the brake to fail.

The braking force output of the oil brake is relatively soft, the driving comfort is good, and the maintenance is relatively convenient. However, the braking response speed is a bit slow, and the braking force is relatively weak. In addition, the oil circuit of the braking system also needs to be maintained carefully.

The choice of braking method for light trucks also needs to be combined with the working conditions

From the model point of view, light trucks can neither be classified as large trucks nor small vehicles. After all, the load capacity of 1-3t is there, so which one is more suitable, air brake or oil brake?

If the weight of the goods transported by the car owner is not high, and the requirements for damage to the goods are relatively strict, such as fruits and vegetables, cold fresh, flowers, etc., and the running route is mainly on urban roads, and occasionally touches the high speed, then it is more appropriate to choose the oil brake;

If the goods usually transported are relatively heavy, such as bagged cement, sand and gravel, putty powder, etc., and the distribution line is mainly the following, it is best to choose air brakes to provide sufficient braking force;

If the goods you usually face are uncertain, such as moving, building materials, and bulk cargo, and the road conditions include both urban roads and downroads, it is recommended to choose air brakes, because under the condition of long-term overload transportation, There will soon be problems with the oil brake. It is better to choose the air brake directly. In addition, judging from the best-selling light truck models in China, the air brake is more sought-after.

How to maintain the air brake and oil brake

The brake management of air brakes is relatively durable, but more attention should be paid to the degree of wear of brake drums and brake pads, and regular replacement should be done. At the same time, pay trailer axle attention to regular adjustments and pay attention to whether there is air leakage or water ingress in the air brake pipeline.

The maintenance of the oil brake is relatively worry-free. Regularly check and replace the brake fluid, and pay attention to the wear of the brake disc and brake pad.

No matter what kind of braking system, always keep safety in mind in daily use of the car, do not overload or overspeed, and check the braking system on flat roads after the vehicle is wading.
