Lubricating oil is a necessity on the wheel end. Ordinary trailer axle generally uses grease. Maintenance-free trailer axle commonly used lubricating oil plays the role of lubrication, rust prevention, corrosion prevention and wear prevention, which can protect parts, reduce the frequency of parts replacement and extend the service life of parts.


But once it enters the brake drum, it will stick to the inner wall of the brake drum and the brake pad. With the contact between the two, the attached area becomes larger and larger. The original dry brake pad will also become abnormally wet and slippery, and there will be braking jam, braking distance is too long, braking system abnormal sound and other phenomena.

So, why does good lubrication oil get into the brake drum? There are two main culprits:


1. Add excessive lubricating grease at the wheel end.


Some owners do wheel end maintenance, think lubricating grease more than a little harm, but also conducive to lubrication, extend the time of the next maintenance, so it is added more than the prescribed amount of lubricating grease.


Too much oil will cause the pressure of the seal to rise, resulting in an insecure seal, and the filling amount of oil and bearing temperature increases linearly. Excessive oil is easy to cause the bearing temperature to be too high, which further worsens the aging damage of the seal.


So the owner of the wheel end lubricating oil, avoid excessive, do not exceed the sealing capacity of the oil seal.


2, wheel end oil seal problem.


The oil seal is between the braking system and the bearing, and its main function is to isolate the lubricating oil on the bearing to prevent it from entering the braking system. In general, the oil seal is often designed with long maintenance or maintenance-free design. According to the principle, the service life is relatively long. However, if the cooling measures of the vehicle braking system are inappropriate, the wheel end is often in a high temperature state, which will aggravate the aging of the oil seal and cause the oil seal to leak.


Therefore, the owner should do a good job in the process of driving the wheel end cooling measures, especially the owner who often travels to the mountain area, if the budget is sufficient, it is best to install the hydraulic retarder and other auxiliary braking system, if the area can not help but use water sprinkler can also install water cooling device, although it is not dominant on the weight, it is not in line with the market trend, Can play a role in the drum brake cooling is more obvious.

Common braking system failures and solutions:


1, partial brake. When the vehicle comes to a stop at that moment, the steering wheel always deflects more or less to one side. The main reason for this phenomenon is that the braking system around the pump uneven force, the need to replace the pump in time.


2, the brake does not return. In this case, you can check whether the return spring/brake caliper is damaged, whether the brake fluid is missing, whether the brake pump/line and joint are leaking oil, and whether the main pump/brake pump and other parts are damaged.


3. The car shakes when braking. Generally, it is caused by brake drum or brake disc partial grinding, uneven surface, it is recommended to replace a new brake drum or brake disc.


4. Braking deviation. Emergency braking can not slow down in a straight line, the reason may be tire tire pressure or wear degree difference, left and right wheel brake gap is too large, braking torque is different.


5. Braking force can only be provided after the hot car. The vehicle cannot immediately have braking force after starting. This situation is mainly due to the loss of pressure in the pressure transmission pipeline. You can check whether there is cracking or loosening at the interface between the vacuum booster pipe of the main pump and the engine.
