Air suspension is also divided into American and German
In recent years, driven by relevant policies, more and more semi-trailers have begun to install air suspensions. Of course, this is also closely related to the performance of air suspensions such as light weight, stable shock resistance, good comfort, and free lift.
The air suspension was born in the middle of the nineteenth century, and it went through the development process of pneumatic springs, airbag composite suspensions, semi-active air suspensions, and central inflatable suspensions. In some developed countries, especially in Europe and the United States, the application proportion of air suspension on trucks and semi-trailers has reached more than 95%.
Whether in Europe or North America, the air suspension cannot open the airbag structure, but due to differences in road conditions and load requirements, the air suspensions they use are not exactly the same. At present, the domestic air suspension is mainly based on these two types.
Let’s talk about the American air suspension first. Its biggest feature is that the guide arm is welded by multiple steel plates. Generally, it has an “I-beam” design. It looks like a whole, and the front bracket of the American air suspension is smaller than that of the European type. Therefore, theoretically speaking, the weight of the guide arm of the American air suspension will be relatively light. In addition, the contact area between the guide arm and the axle of the American air suspension is larger, and the lateral support performance of the vehicle will be better. However, due to the relatively short stroke of the airbag, it is more suitable for use under better road conditions.
The guide arm of the European air suspension (also called the German air suspension) is more like a traditional leaf spring structure, generally in the form of one or more pieces, directly forged, and has better load-bearing performance. Because the shape of the guide arm can be bent, the stroke of the airbag is relatively longer and the shock absorption performance is better. In addition, the leaf spring guide arm itself also has good shock filtering performance and is more adaptable to road conditions.
Based on the national conditions of our country, due to the relatively complex road conditions and heavy-duty transportation, there are relatively more applications for European-style air suspension.
The air suspension under Shandong DARO Group is built with new technology, with strong toughness and good sealing performance. It can calmly deal with the impact of bumpy roads on the frame and reduce load and stress. The classic European design has a long service life and high load-bearing strength. It is equipped with DARO disc trailer axles.
